ELECTRONIC BIDS for the construction of the “Wind Retrofits for Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and Ward 6 Senior Center
” consisting of the following:
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Sub-Station is located at 102 West 91st Street in Galliano, Louisiana. The Sheriff’s Department operates criminal and civil operations from this office and houses trustees and provides all law enforcement activities for Lower Lafourche Parish. The structure is a single-story brick veneer building with a hip and gable architectural shingle roof. The building was constructed approximately 35 years ago. Attached to the building is a wood frame structure with wood panel siding added at an unknown time. This structure serves as restroom and laundry facilities for trustees. The building is equipped with frame windows. The doors are standard metal and storefront with glass style.
The proposed project will install impact rated products and mitigate the roof of the office and cell areas of the substation to withstand 140 MPH winds. The existing bathroom/laundry room portion of the substation structure will be hardened to resist winds up to 180 mph. The bathroom/laundry room portion of the building will provide sufficient area to store and protect materials and equipment as a staging area during a high wind/tropical storm event.
The Ward 6 Senior Center is located at 1531 Highway 20 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The building serves as a senior center for the senior citizens in the Chackbay Community. The building provides recreation and fellowship opportunities for the seniors in the area, along with assisting these residents with seeking services available to them including food, health, and wellness. The structure is a single-story pre-engineered metal building that was constructed within the last fifteen years. The structure is equipped with metal frame windows. Doors to the buildings are metal and glass storefront type. A secondary structure is located on this site and is used by the center as storage. This building is also a pre-engineered metal building with metal doors, including one roll-up bay door.
The proposed project will install impact rated products and mitigate the roof to withstand 140 MPH winds at the senior center. After completion of this project the building can be used to prepare food or provide office/meeting space to obtain disaster relief.
ALTERNATIVE: As part of the existing project, the storage room and bathroom are partially funded by the HMGP grant. The unfunded portion of the structures may be excluded as part of the final project. Additionally, the project calls to remove and replace canopies at the substation. This portion of the project may be excluded from the final project.
